Travis Atkinson (he/him/el) grew up around the world as the dependent of a civil employee of the United States Navy. He has lived in multiple states of the union, in the Philippines, and Japan. He spent a significant part of his formative years in San Diego, California. There, he attended Oak Park Elementary, Horace Mann Middle, and Samuel Gompers Secondary School. Travis left San Diego after his father was stationed in Okinawa, Japan where he ultimately graduated from high school.

After graduating, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Florida A&M University. He followed that with a degree in Jurisprudence from The University of Georgia School of Law. Travis returned to Florida to practice criminal defense. For a little over ten years he has represented indigent defendants as an Assistant Public Defender. In nearly one hundred first-chair jury trials, Travis has defended all levels of charges from misdemeanors to capital murder.

During his practice in criminal law, Travis recognized that too many individuals could have avoided significant legal jeopardy if they had a working knowledge of individual civil rights and how they relate to interactions with law enforcement. He believes that Uprise Theatre is an excellent vehicle to impart crucial knowledge that can be used to avoid potentially life-changing consequences.

In his free time, Travis likes to watch television, movies, and play video games.
