Board Secretary

A past Uprise intern, Marisa Hirsch, is now a board member with Uprise. Marisa Hirsch graduated Cum Laude from UC San Diego in 2017 with a Bachelors of the Arts in Political Science and a Minor in Philosophy. She worked for two years at a local Plaintiff employment law firm representing workers rights as a legal assistant before attending law school at California Western School of Law in August 2019. Marisa was awarded academic merit scholarships each year of law school. She became a teaching fellow for Property law during her second year. Throughout law school, Marisa largely focused on public interest law taking internships with the San Diego County Public Defender's office and Uprise Theatre learning more about criminal defense, community, and accountability/abolition. Marisa also became an active member of Team Justice San Diego and SURJ San Diego (Showing Up for Racial Justice). There she builds community relationships, and actively supports and lobbys for local and state legislation championed by San Diego leaders from Pillars of the Community and Moms Against Torture. 

Marisa graduated Magna Cum Laude from law school in April 2022. She sat for the July 2022 bar exam and was sworn in as an attorney in December 2022. She now works as an associate attorney for a local civil defense law firm as she continues to grow her legal and litigation skills. Marisa remains involved with Uprise Theatre, Team Justice San Diego, and SURJ.
